Sakinah Privacy Policy

Effective 26 October 2026

Sakinah shows prayer times, plays the adhan, points to the Qibla and shows the Hijri calendar on Android. This policy explains what information the app uses and why. In short: you never create an account, and your phone's location never leaves your phone.

What stays on your phone

  • Your location. If you tap "Use my approximate location", the app asks Android once for your approximate (not precise) location and finds the nearest city in a city list built into the app. This happens entirely on your phone. The location, the city you choose and your prayer times are never sent to us, to Google or to anyone else. You can also just type your city.
  • Your settings: calculation method, adhan choices, reminders, theme and the other options.
  • A short record of when each adhan was due and when it played, shown in the app's adhan reliability screen.

We do not collect your name, email, contacts, photos or files. Sakinah has no account and no server of its own that the app talks to.

Adhan reliability and crash reports

We use Google Analytics for Firebase and Firebase Crashlytics to make sure the adhan plays on time on every kind of phone. Besides what Google Analytics measures by itself (for example how many people use the app, sessions, screens, the device model, Android version and country), the app sends only whether each adhan played on time, late or not at all, and which of the app's reliability checks fail on the phone (for example "alarms not allowed"). These reports never include your location, city or prayer times. When the app crashes, Crashlytics sends the technical details of the crash and of the device. For this, Google collects an app instance ID, an installation ID and, where allowed, your device's advertising ID. Like any internet service, Google receives your IP address and may use it to estimate a general region such as your country or city; it does not receive your phone's location. In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, this follows your choice in Google's consent form: without your consent, crash reports are not sent and Google Analytics sends only anonymous measurements without identifiers. Google processes this data for us under the Firebase privacy and security terms.

Advertising

Sakinah is free and shows ads from Google AdMob: a card on the Today screen and a small banner on the Calendar and Settings screens. Ads are never shown on the adhan, the Qibla compass or during the first setup, and never from 15 minutes before to 20 minutes after each prayer time. All ads are muted and limited to content rated for general audiences. To show and measure ads, Google may collect your device's advertising ID, your IP address (which may be used to estimate a general location), information about the ads you see and tap, and app performance information. In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, the app asks for your consent first with Google's consent form, and you can change your choice at any time in Settings > Privacy choices. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID in Android's settings. Learn more in how Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.

Remove ads

You can remove all ads forever with a single purchase through Google Play. Google Play handles the payment; we never see your payment details. Google Play tells the app only whether you have bought it, so the ads stay away after a reinstall. Google Analytics may record the purchase (product and price) as an event.

Measuring our own ads on Facebook, Instagram and Google

We advertise Sakinah on Facebook, Instagram and Google. To learn which of these ads lead people to install the app, the app includes the Meta (Facebook) SDK. Outside the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, it tells Meta Platforms when the app is installed and opened, together with your device's advertising ID, your IP address and basic device information (such as the device model, Android version, language, time zone and mobile carrier), and it may tell Meta that a purchase of "Remove ads" was made. It never sends your location, city or prayer times, and you do not need a Facebook account. Meta receives this data with its Limited Data Use option, which applies where US state privacy laws require it. In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland the Meta SDK is never started. You can reset or delete your advertising ID in Android's settings. For our Google ads, Google uses the Google Analytics for Firebase data described above (for example that the app was opened for the first time). Learn more in Meta's Privacy Policy.

Permissions

  • Approximate location: only when you tap "Use my approximate location", to find your city on the phone.
  • Notifications, alarms & reminders, full-screen notifications and the media playback service: to play the adhan at the exact prayer time, show it with a Stop button and play it even when the phone is asleep.
  • Run at startup: to set the adhans again after the phone restarts.

Children

Sakinah is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
